Note: I plan to return to making some more when Star Trek Online goes free to play, but I will have to find somewhere else to host the video. I do plan on returning to making those, but right now I can't say when that will be. I do intend on continuing the series at some point, and will send you an email when I do. Good news is that I have learned quite a bit of tricks since I first began those, so I will be able to improve the show significantly when I do get back into it. Sorry for taking so long, life commitments and other things I have been working on are taking up a lot of my time. I do plan to go back to it at some point.

A Brief Interview with the Producer:

Q: What led you to your decision to create a Star Trek fan film series?

A: I am in my first year of college majoring in multimedia technology. I have always liked Star Trek and thought this would be a good way to practice editing film. I am not very proficiant yet at it, but as time goes by I will try to use what I learn in school in my films. I hope to one day look back on these films and say "Boy I am so much better at this than I use to be!" It is a fun personal project.

Q: What can you tell us about your second episode, "Return to Gothos"?

A: I will be including some of my own artwork in this episode, and utilizing different filming techniques. It will have a different look than the first episode and it will be shorter than the first episode. I plan to conclude this episode in the second chapter, By the end of the episode viewers will know some of Trelane's backstory. I don't want to give too much away but the second chapter will be full of suprises.

Q: Do you write professionally?

A: I am not a professional writer but I am an artist. I consider myself a creative person and I am always creating something. Be it a piece of art, a short story, a song. Put it this way, I bought Star Trek Online, pay a monthly subscription, and I hardly ever play the game. I utilize it mostly for creating this machinima series. To be honest I have more fun doing this than playing the game.

Q: Can you describe the process you used to create Star Trek: The Machinima Series?

A: I try to make the episodes feel like a star trek episode. I start with a primary theme, for instance, in VOV the theme was animal rights. Once I have the theme I have to write a story around that, which is not as hard as you might think. The first chapter I introduce characters, setting, conflict, and a little for-shadowing. The for-shadowing are hints toward things to come in later chapters. Having those in place makes it easier to tie the story together in the end. Technically I will usually begin the process by writing the dialog. Then I will get the score and the sound effects. Then I will work on any special effects shots I need, Finally I will film all the rest of the shots. I then edit everything together. Render it, watch it about fifty times, tweaking little things here and there, and then I will do the final render and upload it. The entire process takes anywhere from two weeks to a month for each chapter.

Q: What can we expect from you in the future?

A: In the Third episode I plan to do a TNG episode. I have already begun to work on the basic story elements for that chapter. Over the next year I will be doing several episodes and trying to improve the quality with each new release. I plan to by some more powerful software which will help greatly in the special effects department. I have considered using a full cast of voice actors, but I think that will come in later episodes. Right now I am just getting my feet wet, I lack the experience to direct actors, but that time will come.

The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise hopes to acquire trade agreements with the Oma govennment of planet Canist Oma. The Klingons also have the same ambitions, at the cost of the freedom of the planet's inhabitants and unique lifeforms. While there, they encounter a unique lifeform, rebel forces and a traitor!

Quality Rating: 82%
There are plenty of "glitches" so to speak with Machinima. In particular, the mouths of the characters don't move when they're speaking. The bridge doesn't look a thing like it should. All the voices are done by Pcola Patt, so there's a certain sameness to the dialogue. Still, the story is a relatively good one that engages the viewer. Don't miss this unique film!

The second episode of Star Trek: The Machinima Series. "Return to Gothos" is the sequel to the original series episode "The Squire of Gothos." The crew of the Enterprise while enroute to Earth is intercepted by General Trelane. Trelane is free of his parents and exploring the galaxy. Captain Kirk is coaxed into fighting Trelane ship to ship.

Quality Rating: 75%
Many things about this fan film series are commendable. I enjoyed Trelane's appearance. I like the explanation of the drastic changes we see in the bridge stations (of which there was no mention in "Voice for the Voiceless). I thought it was very clever to come up with Trelane's choice of method to force Kirk to come after him. I like the idea of a wooden sailing vessel in space, and am so looking forward to the confrontation. My only problem is that I dislike the idea of the photonic fleet, but hey, that's my problem, and it may not be not yours. Looking forward to the conclusion!
