Calvert Films

writer/director/creator/executive producer: Laurie Calvert

cast: Laurie Calvert, Tony Bailey; Sherill Turnerr, John Blythe, Christine Presland, Rob Cook, Arthur Ross
characters: original crew and video interaction with characters from the original series
characterizations: adequate, but a little emotionless; they've just lost their crew, and yet don't convey any sense of their loss

sets: digital
quality: mediocre
costuming: fair

special effects: mediocre

base of operations: England

setting: U.S.S. Intrepid and U.S.S. Enterprise; series era time frame

music: taken from the original series

website: http://www.calvertfilm.fsnet.co.uk/intrepid.htm
ease of navigation: simple
content: good, but not terribly informative

notes: Star Trek is not the only interest of Laurie Calvert, but he made two fan films in 1998 and 1999. There's an obvious fondness for shuttlecraft, planet scenes, and starship firefights. He has not made a Star Trek fan film in over 10 years.

Episode 01: The Intrepid Finale, Pt. 1   and  The Intrepid Finale, Pt. 2

writer: Laurie Calvert

The starship Intrepid has been badly damaged after an alien attack. As the Enterprise approaches, the alien vessel attacks again. Other starships join in the battle to defeat the alien ship but in the end it may be an unusual maneuver from the Intrepid that wins the day...

Quality Rating: 42%
While it's clear that the folks involve have a love of Classic Star Trek, at the time this film was produced, there just wasn't reasonable technology to make a viable Star Trek fan film. The special effects detract heavily from the story. The writing itself is simplistic although the finale itself is quite original.

The Intrepid Finale

Episode 02: The Brave and the Bold

writer: Laurie Calvert

The U.S.S. Valiant has been lost, presumed crashed on a planet. A shuttlecraft goes to investigate and gets pulled down by the same mysterious energy. What or who is causing it, and why?

Quality Rating: 58%
This episode episode is an improvement over the first episode. The filming and special effects are actually better, and there's action on the planet's surface. Spoiler Alert: The story has an interesting concept, but is spoiled at the end by a sudden appearance of folks rightfully presumed dead.
