A Fandom Divided...

Now that the fans have pretty much seen the movie, two camps have quickly assembled themselves. The "gushers" (who cannot help but sound like sycophants who idolize everything to do with the movie) and the "bashers" (who honestly hate everything to do with the movie) are already at work on each other, attacking each other in forums across the Internet such as alt.startrek.creative and TrekBBS. There's a third camp, though, of which I'm a member: the "pragmatists" who simply accept the movie for the entertainment which it is and refuse to either overly praise or condemn this movie.

It's true: it's not a thinking man's movie. It's got plot holes you could drive a Romulan mining ship through. But it's also true that it's re-energized a lot of the jaded fans. No matter which camp you belong to, please bear in mind that as adults (and honestly, a lot of us are middle-aged men and women) we really shouldn't result in the dung-flinging snarkiness I've seen lately.

IDIC, you know?
