Starship Mojave

creator/executive producer: Jeff Sorg

cast: Thomas Sorg, Kamren Brazeal, Mike Jones, Laz Santos, Natasha Stone, Ibrahim Karadsheh, Amber Mclernon, Reno Hickey and Nick Smith
characters: original crew, primarily played by teens and children
characterizations: rather juvenile, but that's not surprising given the casting

sets: physical, and not bad at all
quality: it's a visually interesting kid-oriented production; one has to wonder what would have happened had an adult cast been used
costuming: adequate

special effects: a little sub-par, when compared to the work by Neo/FX and the like

base of operations: Mojave, California

setting: U.S.S. Mojave, NCC-824; series era time frame, circa 2266

music: some original music, some lifted from other Star Trek films

website: excellent
ease of navigation: excellent
content: excellent

Note: Producer Jeff Sorg is taking a hiatus now, and their website is down. However, he's considering continuing the project at a later date. The movie can still be viewed on YouTube.

Overall, when one takes into consideration that this production features a primarily juvenile cast, it's not terribly bad. But it's not terribly good, either. There's mumbled dialogue, young actors on the verge of laughing after the delivery of each of their lines (and choppy editing to hide that fact), and the occasional line forgotten but not refilmed. Story-wise, the episode is a redux of "The Return of the Archons" and "The Apple," and not a particularly clever retelling at that. While not the most stellar of fan films, I've seen several that are far worse. Watchable, but you really find yourself wishing they'd not used the kids in the production.

The U.S.S. Mojave finds an area of space through which sensors cannot see. Searching the area deeper, Captain Morgan and crew find themselves on a planet in a shot-down shuttle, having to make repairs while under fire from the natives!

Project now on hold.
