Starship Farragut
Reports on Premiere showing of
"For Want of a Nail"

Holly Bednar

The second production from the Starship Farragut production crew, "For Want of a Nail" premiered at the University of Maryland’s Hoff Theatre on the evening of October 13th. Sans red carpet and designer evening gowns, the cast a crew were there to welcome nearly 200 fans in attendance. The evening began with Farragut’s Executive Producer, John Broughton, presenting awards to six of the team members for their outstanding service and contributions to the production process and the organization as a whole, and one noteworthy award to Star Trek New Voyages.

Michael Struck, CEO and owner of NEO F/X whose company creates all of the spectacular CGI and effects was recognized for his company’s many valuable contributions.

Star Trek New Voyages received special appreciation and an award for their continuing support; Tom Donnelly accepted the award on behalf of James Cawley.

Bob McDonough was honored for his superb management of the Starship Farragut website.

Tonya Bacon was formally recognized for sacrificing her home over the long months of production for many project activities and for her overall support.

Michael and Holly Bednar received accolades for their tireless dedication and consistent involvement in all phases of the project.

Mark Hildebrand was recognized for directorship, screenplay, video editing and ADR (re-looping of dialogue).

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Mark took the stage to introduce the first airing of this episode to the delight of an enthusiastic audience. The episode was eighty minutes in length, followed by a five minute blooper reel which epitomized what fun it is to make a fan film of this nature. The audience responded overwhelmingly favorable to the show and mingled with the cast and crew at the end of the evening, recounting their favorite scenes and remarking about the progress of the character development, and the evolution of complexity from the first to the second episode.

To sum up the evening, I think it is safe and accurate to say that a good time was had by all. We hope you too will enjoy this film when it is released for download from the internet on November 10th. Stay tuned for more of Starship Farragut adventures to come!
